Sept. 14 AP & Coaches Poll Updates

Penn State (3-0) remains #2 in both the AP & Coaches Polls released on Sunday. Ohio State is still #1 in both as well. Oregon (3-0, 1-0) which is the Nittany Lions next opponent in the Whiteout Game on Sept. 27 at Beaver Stadium (7:30pm on NBC) slipped two spots in the new AP Poll and now sits #6 while it is still ranked #5 by the Coaches. This is a bit of a setback for PSU fans hoping for a first ever all Top 5 match-up in the Official Whiteout. The Ducks tumbled in the rankings despite the fact that they won their Big Ten opener 34-14 at Northwestern.

Penn State has only faced a Top 5 team in an Official Whiteout on 3 occasions—2011 vs. #3 Alabama (L), 2016, vs. #2 Ohio state (W) & 2018 vs. #4 Ohio State (L). This will be the fourth Official Whiteout where PSU is ranked in the Top 5, along with 2009 vs. Iowa (L), 2017 vs. Michigan (W), and 2024 vs. SMU in CFP (W). Assuming that PSU holds its #2 ranking through the Bye Week, the Oregon match-up would be the second Whiteout to feature a second-ranked Nittany Lions team along with the 2017 Whiteout win over Michigan.

Penn State is idle on Sept. 20 while Oregon hosts former PAC-12 rival Oregon State.
