Penn State Will Wear Generations of Greatness Uniforms in Bowl
Penn State has announced that it will wear their new 2025-style Generations of Greatness jerseys in the Pinstripe Bowl vs. Clemson. It’s the first time this look will be used in a game away from Beaver Stadium. The jerseys which feature the throwback white V-neck collars (used 1980-2010) made their debut in the Oct. 11 Homecoming/Stripe Out game vs. Northwestern. The full Generations of Greatness unform look that debuted in 2017 also includes numbers on sides of helmets, gray face masks, striped pants, and white shoes. This is the second straight season in which a Generations of Greatness look has been used twice including once in the post-season (2024 CFP 1st Round vs. SMU) and it’s the first time it’s ever been used in a bowl game. Although, PSU did wear white Adidas turf shoes at the 1979 Sugar Bowl vs. Alabama as part of “total white” look. Penn State will also wear a Pinstripe Bowl patch on the left front shoulder of the jersey just below the Nike swoosh. This will be the final PSU football game to see Nike gear in use (Adidas takes over in 2026).
Interestingly, the announcement of the throwback look to the Joe Paterno-era jersey style (first made by Russell Athletic) was made on what would have been Paterno’s 99th birthday for a bowl to be played in Joe’s hometown. It’s also the first anniversary of the first use of a Generations of Greatness uniform in a post-season game (CFP win vs. SMU).
