NCAA Division One Schools Vote Down Pro Sports Betting

The NCAA policy change that permitted college student-athletes and personnel to wager on professional sports (but not college sports) that was approved Oct. 22nd by the three NCAA Administrative Committees has been effectively vetoed by the membership of Division One which ends its implementation across all 3 NCAA divisions. Voting by the Division One member schools reached the required two-thirds majority of “NO” votes on Nov. 21, and this prevents the policy from taking effect. Recent gambling issues involving both pro and college athletes and coaches caused many colleges and conferences to want to either delay or cancel the rollout of this new rule. The NCAA contended at the time of the original approval of the policy that would have permitted betting on pro sports that it was “not endorsing gambling in any way”.
