Penn State Reveals New Generations of Greatness Jersey

Penn State announced late Monday in a teaser video that it would be using a new-look “throwback” jersey for the Oct. 11 Generations of Greatness Game vs. Northwestern which is also Homecoming and the Stripe Out game. The jersey (see above—Courtesy: Penn State Athletics) will feature the classic “white collar” look created by Russell Athletic that first appeared in the 1980 win at Texas A&M and continued through the 2010 season. The white collar will also permit the navy-blue Nittany Lion Shrine logo to be more visible at the base of the neck. The new jersey continues to use the “late 1950’s to early 60’s style” of numbers with the serif font. The overall uniform appearance typically includes striped pants, white cleats, gray facemasks, and numbers of the sides of the helmet. This “new look” could be a one-and-done since PSU is ending its relationship with Nike ahead of the 2026 football season.

The Generations of Greatness game theme uniform was first used in the 2017 win over Indiana. PSU is 6-2 in these games and is 4-1 when this uniform is used in combination with Homecoming. The Nittany Lions have won the last four of these games including two in 2024 (second game was CFP win over SMU).

Change to Penn State endzone design for this weekend: The endzone’s standard block-letter Penn State look has been replaced by the Oval Lion logo with its commonly associated Penn State wordmark logo which was last regularly used in the endzones during the 2004 season. Typically, for some Generations of Greatness games, PSU has painted the endzones in the 60s-early 80s “argyle blue-white diamond” look (this was seen in 2017, 2021, 2023 & 2024).

The Penn State-Northwestern game kicks at 3:30pm EDT on FS1.
